Pif is a cartoon dog created by Jose Cabrero Arnal in 1948 for the French daily L'Humanite. His strips run on slapstick and a long rivalry with a cat named Hercules. He grew popular enough that the magazine Vaillant was renamed for him, relaunching in 1969 as Pif Gadget with a toy in every issue.
