Jim Steranko introduced Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. feature in Strange Tales #159 in 1967. She joined S.H.I.E.L.D. as a field agent and became Fury's partner. With no powers, she works as a hand to hand combatant, marksman and pilot.
