Louise Simonson and Mary Wilshire introduced Alistair Smythe in 1985 as the son of Spencer Smythe, who built the first Spider-Slayer robots. He took up the Spider-Slayer line after his father died. Paralyzed, he sealed himself in a living carapace that let him walk again and gave him claws.
