Roy Thomas and Gil Kane introduced Michael Morbius in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 (1971). A biochemist chasing a cure for a fatal blood disease, he treated himself with electroshock and vampire bat DNA and came out a pseudo-vampire with great strength, flight and a thirst for blood.
