Jim Davis

American cartoonist born in Marion, Indiana. He worked in advertising and assisted Tom Ryan on the Tumbleweeds strip before creating Garfield in 1978, a daily comic featuring a sardonic, lasagna-loving cat. The strip became one of the most widely syndicated in the world. He founded Paws, Inc. in 1981 to manage the Garfield franchise, which expanded into television specials, animated series, and feature films.
