Kaoru Shintani
Japanese manga artist born in 1951 who worked as an assistant to Leiji Matsumoto before pursuing his own career. He is best known for Area 88, a military aviation series serialized from 1979 that won the Shogakukan Manga Award for Best Shonen work in 1985.
