Japanese manga artist born in 1967 in Hokkaido who is best known for Great Teacher Onizuka, a comedy series about a former biker turned schoolteacher serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 1997 to 2002. The series sold over 50 million copies and won the 1998 Kodansha Manga Award.
