BIOGRAPHY

Todd McFarlane is a Canadian-American comic book artist, writer, entrepreneur, and toy designer, best known for his revolutionary work on Spider-Man and as the creator of the long-running independent comic series Spawn. His bold, highly detailed, and stylized artwork helped define the 1990s comic book aesthetic.

McFarlane rose to fame at Marvel Comics with his influential work on:

  • The Amazing Spider-Man – Known for redefining Spidey’s look, especially with the webbing and acrobatics
  • Spider-Man (1990) – The launch of his own solo Spider-Man title as both artist and writer, which sold over 2.5 million copies

In 1992, McFarlane co-founded Image Comics, a creator-owned publishing powerhouse, where he launched:

  • Spawn – A dark antihero saga that became one of the most successful independent comics of all time

In addition to comics, McFarlane founded McFarlane Toys, a top-tier collectible action figure company known for its high-quality, hyper-detailed figures based on comics, sports, video games, and pop culture franchises.

Todd McFarlane has also worked in film, music videos, and television, including producing the Spawn animated HBO series and the live-action Spawn movie (1997), with plans to reboot the film franchise.
