Set in New York City in 1941, Ezra Cain is a hard-boiled private investigator and former archaeology student called in to track down an ancient anvil stolen from the Museum of Natural History and rumored to hold the power of Hephaestus.

A shadowy cult known as the Brutal Dark surfaces in the city with resources that go well beyond anything human, leaving Cain as the last line between them and a conspiracy to overthrow the country. DC has positioned the title as a recurring annual line with a new Cain case planned each year.
