Volume 2 of The Amazing Spider-Man launched in 1999 with a renumbered issue one, resetting the flagship title after the Clone Saga era. The series ran 58 issues before merging back into legacy numbering.
Howard Mackie wrote the early issues with art by John Byrne. J. Michael Straczynski took over as writer partway through the run, joined by artist John Romita Jr. Scott Hanna provided inks throughout much of the series.
Straczynski's tenure introduced Ezekiel and Morlun while adding mystical elements to Spider-Man's origin. The run balanced street-level stories with larger questions about the nature of Peter Parker's powers and his place among other spider-themed characters.
