Why are manga listed by volume instead of by issue?

Manga is serialized in anthology magazines first and then collected into tankōbon volumes, which is the format most readers buy and shelve. VerseDB follows that, so a manga series lists volumes where an American comic lists issues.

Are Japanese and English editions tracked separately?

Yes. The original Japanese run and its licensed English edition are separate series, linked through foreign editions, so you can record the printing you own without losing the connection to the original.

Is manhwa or manhua included here?

No. Korean manhwa and Chinese manhua are their own mediums in VerseDB and are cataloged separately. Use the medium filter on the search page to browse those.

Which year is shown on a manga series?

The year that volume began publishing in its original language. A licensed English edition carries its own start year on its own series entry, which is often decades later.

Manga Series

Manga is comics published in Japan, serialized in anthology magazines and then collected into tankōbon volumes rather than sold as monthly issues. VerseDB catalogs manga series with their volume lists, creator credits, original Japanese publication years, and the licensed English editions that followed. Series in this medium are numbered by volume instead of issue, and foreign editions link back to the original run, so you can track whichever printing is actually on your shelf.
