Editing an Issue's Details

Every issue you add to your collection can be personalized with detailed information. This helps you keep better records of your comics, whether you're tracking how much you paid, where it's stored, or if it's a rare variant.


Accessing Issue Edit Screen

How to Edit an Issue

  1. Navigate to your Collection page: https://versedb.com/collection
  2. Find the issue you want to update in your collection list
  3. Click the Edit icon (pencil) in the Actions column on the right
  4. The edit form will appear (modal or separate page)
  5. Make your changes
  6. Click "Update Details" to save

When to Edit Issues

Immediately After Adding

  • Assign to Collection Set
  • Set format and condition
  • Add storage location

After Purchase

  • Record purchase date and price
  • Note acquisition source
  • Update estimated value

Periodic Maintenance

  • Update market values
  • Change storage locations
  • Add or update notes
  • Adjust for sale/trade status

Edit Form Sections

Basic Details

Collection Set

  • Dropdown menu of your Collection Sets
  • Assigns issue to a specific set (folder/group)
  • Select "Default Collection" or "None" for no set
  • See Using Collection Sets guide for more info

Format

  • Type of physical format
  • Common options:
    • Single Issue - Standard comic book
    • TPB - Trade Paperback
    • Hardcover - Hardcover collection
    • Omnibus - Large collection volume
    • Deluxe Edition - Premium format
    • Digital - Digital copy
  • Helps track different editions you own

Storage Location

  • Free-text field for physical location
  • Examples:
    • "Box 1"
    • "Shelf A, Row 2"
    • "Long Box Alpha"

Personal Notes

  • Free-text field for any notes

Show in Public Collection

  • Checkbox: ✅ Show this item in my public collection
  • Checked: Visible to others on your profile
  • Unchecked: Private, only you can see it

Condition & Grading

Condition

  • Dropdown of standard grading conditions
  • Common options (from best to worst):
    • Mint (M) - Perfect condition
    • Near Mint (NM) - 9.2-9.9
    • Very Fine (VF) - 7.5-9.0
    • Fine (F) - 5.5-7.0
    • Very Good (VG) - 3.5-5.0
    • Good (G) - 1.8-3.0
    • Fair (Fr) - 1.0-1.5
    • Poor (P) - 0.5
  • Based on industry-standard grading scale
  • Important for tracking value

Professionally Graded

  • Checkbox: ✅ Professionally graded
  • Check if book is graded by CGC, CBCS, or similar
  • Indicates slabbed/encapsulated books
  • Increases accuracy for value tracking

Print Number

  • Dropdown or number field
  • Options:
    • 1st Print - Original printing
    • 2nd Print - Second printing
    • 3rd Print, 4th Print, etc.
  • Important for value (1st prints typically worth more)
  • Leave blank if unknown or 1st print assumed

Variant & Signature

Variant Edition

  • Checkbox: ✅ Variant edition
  • Check if this is a variant cover
  • Examples:
    • Store exclusives (Midtown, Unknown, etc.)
    • Convention exclusives
    • Incentive variants (1:25, 1:50, etc.)
    • Artist variants
    • Blank variants
  • Helps track special editions

Signed

  • Checkbox: ✅ Signed
  • Check if comic is autographed
  • Consider adding signer name in Notes field
  • Examples in Notes:
    • "Signed by Stan Lee"
    • "Signed by artist and writer"
    • "CGC Signature Series"

Purchase Information

Purchase Date

  • Date picker field
  • Record when you bought the issue
  • Format: MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD (depending on settings)
  • Useful for:
    • Tracking investment timeline
    • Insurance records
    • Organizing by acquisition date

Purchase Price

  • Number field for dollar amount
  • How much you paid for this specific issue
  • Examples: 3.99, 50.00, 250.00
  • Tracks investment cost
  • Compare with estimated value to see ROI

Purchase Source

  • Dropdown or free-text field
  • Where you bought the comic
  • Common options:
    • Local Comic Shop (LCS)
    • Online Retailer (Amazon, TFAW, etc.)
    • eBay
    • Convention (SDCC, NYCC, etc.)
    • Marketplace (Facebook, Mercari, etc.)
    • Trade
    • Gift
    • Inherited
  • Helps track which sources provide best value

Acquisition Method

  • How you obtained the comic
  • Options:
    • Purchased - Bought with money
    • Traded - Exchanged for other comics/items
    • Gift - Given as present
    • Inherited - Part of inherited collection
    • Found - Discovered at estate sale, etc.
  • Helps categorize collection origins

Market & Value

Estimated Value

  • Number field for current market value
  • Your estimate of what book is worth now
  • Examples: 5.00, 125.00, 1500.00
  • Used to calculate Collection Stats
  • Update periodically to track value changes

For Sale

  • Checkbox: ✅ For sale
  • Check if you're willing to sell this issue
  • May show on public profile (depending on settings)
  • Helps other collectors know availability

For Trade

  • Checkbox: ✅ For trade
  • Check if you're willing to trade this issue
  • May show on public profile
  • Useful for connecting with other collectors

Last Updated

  • Date picker for when value was last checked
  • Helps track how current your values are
  • Reminder to periodically update estimates
  • Useful for insurance documentation

Saving and Updating

How to Save Changes

  1. Fill out or update any fields in the form
  2. Scroll to bottom of form
  3. Click "Update Details" or "Save" button
  4. You'll see a confirmation message
  5. Issue details are updated in your collection

What Happens When You Save

Canceling Edits

  • Click "Cancel" button to discard changes

How Bulk Edit Works

PRO subscribers can edit multiple issues at once:

  1. On Collection page, check boxes next to issues
  2. Click "Bulk Edit" button
  3. Choose what to change:
    • Collection Set
    • Format
    • Condition
    • For Sale/Trade status
    • Public/Private status
  4. Select new value
  5. Apply to all selected issues

When to Use Bulk Edit

  • Moving entire series to new Collection Set
  • Marking multiple issues for sale
  • Changing format for TPB collection
  • Making group of issues public/private
  • Updating storage location after reorganizing

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to fill out every field?

No! All fields are optional. Fill out what's useful to you. Even just Format and Condition helps.

Can I edit multiple issues at once?

Yes, with PRO subscription you can bulk edit selected issues.

What if I don't know the value?

Leave Estimated Value blank. Your Collection Stats will still work, just won't include that issue.

Can I change details later?

Yes, you can edit and re-edit as many times as you want. Nothing is permanent.

Will editing affect my Collection Stats?

Yes, stats update automatically when you save. Estimated Value and Collection Set assignments affect stats.

What's the difference between Purchase Price and Estimated Value?

  • Purchase Price: What you paid for it
  • Estimated Value: What it's worth now
  • Compare them to see profit/loss

Should I make all my issues public?

Personal choice. Many collectors keep expensive items private for security, but share common items publicly.

Can I add custom fields?

Not currently. Use the Notes field for additional custom information.

What happens if I leave all fields blank?

The issue stays in your collection with just basic info (title, number, series). You can add details anytime later.
