Free Comic Book Day is on May 2, and this year's lineup spans two events: 24 FCBD titles across 14 publishers at comic shops, plus 22 Comics Giveaway Day titles available at bookstores on the same day. Whether you're a longtime reader or just getting started, May 2 is the perfect excuse to leave with something free.
What Is Free Comic Book Day?
FCBD happens every year on the first Saturday of May. Participating comic shops hand out free comics, typically one copy per customer per title while supplies last. It's one of the best days of the year to visit a comic shop.
Highlights from the 2026 FCBD Lineup
With 24 titles on the rack, here's where to start.
DC Comics
DC is bringing four books this year. The DC Next Level Sampler previews upcoming titles from across the line. Aquamanatee is a new all-ages offering. Two reprints round out DC's contribution — DC x Sonic the Hedgehog and The Nice House on the Lake.
Skybound / Image Comics
Skybound's Energon Universe FCBD 2026 Special is the headline book for many collectors. The Energon Universe, which connects Transformers, Void Rivals, and G.I. Joe under one continuity, has grown into one of the most talked-about shared universes in comics.
Vault Comics
Vault brings two books with very different flavors. Dungeon Crawler Carl, based on Matt Dinniman's popular LitRPG novel series, is the easy recommendation for anyone curious about Vault's catalog. Inanna: The Name She Lost is for readers willing to venture further off the beaten path.
Oni Press
Oni's Mind MGMT Fort Psycho Special is the pick for readers who love unconventional, cerebral comics. Matt Kindt's Mind MGMT is one of the more inventive series in indie publishing, and this FCBD entry is a solid introduction.
Titan Comics
Titan arrives with two genre-forward titles: Conan the Barbarian: Tides of the Tyrant King for sword-and-sorcery fans and Gun Honey: Doubles Down for readers who want action with a slick crime edge.
The Rest of the FCBD Lineup
Beyond the highlights above, the full lineup includes:
- The Cimmerian: The Pool of the Black One from Ablaze (more Conan-adjacent sword and sorcery)
- Greatest American Hero from AMP Comics (a revival of the 80s property)
- World of Archie from Archie Comics, a reliable all-ages pick
- Stitch and Supernatural from Dynamite Entertainment
- Mega Man Showdown Special, Street Fighter Forever, and Manga Classics: Journey to the West from UDON Entertainment
- Keenspot Spotlight and Keenspot Toybox anthologies from Keenspot Entertainment
- An AWA Sneak Preview teasing the next Oz Universe volume
- The Future Is F***** Annual from Rekcah Comics
- Flash Gordon and Terrorbytes from Mad Cave Studios
Comics Giveaway Day 2026
Comics Giveaway Day runs alongside FCBD on May 2, but at participating bookstores rather than comic shops. This year's CGD slate leans heavily on recognizable IP and crossover flipbooks — a strong entry point for readers who already love these properties.
Marvel is the biggest presence at CGD 2026, with four titles: Amazing Spider-Man / Queen in Black, Armageddon / X-Men, Alien, Predator & Planet of the Apes, and the all-ages Spidey & His Amazing Friends. That's a range covering classic superhero action, licensed sci-fi horror, and kids' content all in one trip.
Beyond Marvel, the CGD lineup covers a lot of ground. Boom! Studios brings Something is Killing the Children: Road to Slaughter — a smart pick for horror fans curious about James Tynion IV's acclaimed series. IDW has Sonic the Hedgehog and Locke & Key. Manga readers have Blue Lock Full Color Selection & Dragon Circus and Disney Manga: Stitch! Best Food Forever! to look forward to.
The all-ages bookshelf entries include Pizza and Taco, The Last Kids on Earth and the Zombie Parade Sampler, Avatar The Last Airbender — Legends / Minecraft, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe / Dungeons & Dragons. WEBTOON Unscrolled Preview rounds out the slate for webcomic fans.
Plan Your Visit
Not every shop or bookstore will carry every title, and popular books can go fast in the first hour. Knowing your priorities before you go makes a big difference. Ask your shop what they ordered and when doors open.

Started VerseDB because existing tools didn't work the way I wanted. Now I spend my time building features, cleaning up data, and discovering just how weird comic book numbering can get. Always open to feedback - if something's busted or you've got ideas, let me know.
