The Punisher is Frank Castle, a Marvel hero who fights crime outside the law. He was created by Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr., and Ross Andru, and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974.
Castle is a former U.S. Marine whose wife and children are killed after they witness a mob murder in a New York park. In response he begins a one-man war on organized crime.
He has no powers, so he relies on his military training, careful tactics, and a large arsenal of weapons. His white skull emblem is one of the best known symbols in all of comics.
