The Ancient One, known as Yao, was the Sorcerer Supreme before Doctor Strange. He instructed Strange in the mystic arts, serving as his primary mentor. Following his mortal death, his consciousness continued to exist on a higher plane. He sometimes provides aid to his former disciple.
