Magazine Enterprises launched Tim Holt in 1948 around the real-life screen cowboy, and by issue #20 had given him a Lone Ranger-style secret identity, the Red Mask. When Holt's film career wound down the publisher renamed the book after the persona. Frank Bolle drew nearly the entire run.
