Dark Beast is the Age of Apocalypse counterpart of Hank McCoy, twisted by a life without Charles Xavier's influence into a sadistic geneticist in service to Apocalypse. He devised experiments to build armies of enhanced mutants for his master's conquest of North America. When the Age of Apocalypse collapsed, Dark Beast escaped into the main Marvel universe, where he became a recurring enemy of the X-Men.
