Roy Rogers (Leonard Franklin Slye), known as the King of the Cowboys, was a Western film star who became the star of his own Dell Comics series beginning in 1948. Written by Gaylord Du Bois, the comics featured Rogers in original adventures alongside his horse Trigger and wife Dale Evans. At its peak the series appeared across hundreds of newspapers and spawned radio, television, and film adaptations. Rogers retained control of his own likeness, enabling one of the most successful celebrity comics franchises of the era.
