American cartoonist born January 20, 1944, best known for creating the surreal daily comic strip Zippy the Pinhead, which debuted in the underground comic Real Pulp in 1971 and entered national syndication with King Features in 1986. A veteran of the 1970s San Francisco underground comix scene alongside Robert Crumb and Art Spiegelman, he coined Zippy's catchphrase 'Are we having fun yet?' and has authored graphic novels including Invisible Ink and Three Rocks.
