Fantagraphics
Description
Fantagraphics is an American publisher specializing in alternative comics, graphic novels, and classic comic strip anthologies. Founded in 1976, the company has focused on underground, avant-garde, and international work, helping establish comics as a serious literary and artistic form.
The publisher's catalog includes Love and Rockets by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez, Ghost World and Eightball by Daniel Clowes, Black Hole by Charles Burns, Acme Novelty Library by Chris Ware, and Hate by Peter Bagge. Fantagraphics has also published major archival projects including The Complete Peanuts and The Complete Crumb Comics.
Beyond comics, Fantagraphics publishes The Comics Journal, known for in-depth criticism and journalism about the medium. The company has maintained long-term relationships with creators focused on personal, experimental, and unconventional storytelling.
Fantagraphics helped establish the alternative comics movement in North America, creating space for literary, autobiographical, and art-driven work outside the superhero genre.
