José Escobar
Biography
José Escobar Saliente was a Spanish cartoonist born on October 22, 1908, in Barcelona. After the Spanish Civil War he was imprisoned for union activity, and upon release became one of the founding contributors to the magazine Pulgarcito in 1947, where he created his most celebrated characters Zipi y Zape and Carpanta. He was also one of the pioneers of animation in Spain. In 1957 he co-founded the magazine Tío Vivo. He died on March 31, 1994.
