Born in Ohio in 1907, Milton Caniff is one of the most influential American cartoonists of the twentieth century. A graduate of Ohio State University, he launched Terry and the Pirates in 1934, a syndicated adventure strip distinguished by its cinematic compositions, authentic exotic settings, and complex storytelling. He produced the strip for twelve years. In 1947 he introduced Steve Canyon, an aviation adventure serial he drew for Hearst Syndicate until his death in 1988.
