Alex Schomburg was a Puerto Rico-born American illustrator regarded as one of the premier cover artists of the Golden Age of comics. He began drawing comic book covers in 1940 with Daring Mystery Comics #1 and Marvel Mystery Comics #3, and went on to paint more than 600 covers for Timely and other publishers, packing his compositions with dense action and multiple story beats. After World War II he pioneered airbrush techniques for cover painting.
