Jean-Claude Mézières
Jean-Claude Mézières was a French comics artist best known as co-creator of the science fiction series Valérian and Laureline. Working with writer Pierre Christin, his childhood friend, he drew the series from 1967 through 2010 in Pilote and album form. The strip paired a flawed hero with a strong, independent heroine and shaped decades of sci-fi visual design, influencing films from Star Wars to The Fifth Element, on which he worked directly. He won the Grand Prix at Angoulême in 1984.
