Alfred Pennyworth has been dead for years. His great-niece takes over as Bruce Wayne's butler in Batman #12 this week, introduced as Verity Pennyworth in a story written by Matt Fraction with art by Jorge Jiménez. Six assassins are already in Gotham looking for a target; she shows up anyway.
Image Comics ships two notable debuts on the same Wednesday. Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel on screen, writes her first comic with Chachu #1, a 1979-set noir about a woman searching for her missing uncle, drawn by Marianna Ignazzi and colored by Jordie Bellaire. Bleeding Cool and Variety both covered the jump from acting to writing.
Stjepan Šejić also returns to Death Vigil this week, picking the creator-owned series back up for Image and Top Cow after years away.
