Dark Wing (2020)
Dark Wing follows the Quails, a human-like species whose homeworld was flung into deep space after a rogue black hole destroyed their solar system, Ipitoe 3. To survive, the Quails convert their rogue planet Tiberius into a colossal generation ship named the Dark Wing and set out across the galaxy in search of a new home. Captain Benedict Gunn commands the vessel, a blunt, confrontational leader shaped by decades of endless travel.
This limited series launches Heavy Metal's shared science fiction universe Beyond Kuiper, co-created by writer Matthew Medney and aerospace engineer John Connelly. German Ponce provides art and covers, with colors by Protobunker Studio.
Across five issues, Gunn and his crew face mourning, internal plots against their way of life, and choices that test the future of the Quail people. The series draws on tones from The Expanse and Star Trek.
