Blacksad (2000)
Blacksad centers on private investigator John Blacksad through hard-boiled noir mysteries set in a 1950s United States populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals. Created by Juan Diaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido, each album pairs classic detective plotting with social themes of the era, from racism to the Red Scare. Guarnido's painted artwork uses each character's species to signal personality and role.
