Robbedoes (1938)

Robbedoes was the Dutch-language edition of the Franco-Belgian magazine Spirou, first published on 27 October 1938 by Dupuis. For decades it carried translated versions of the strips running in the French Spirou, bringing series such as Robbedoes en Kwabbernoot and Lucky Luke to Flemish and Dutch readers.

A separate Dutch edition appeared from 1954, and by the 1980s its editors gained more room for locally chosen content. The magazine played a large part in the early growth of Flemish comics.

Publication continued as a weekly until September 2005, when the title closed after more than 3,500 issues.
