Discord

VerseDB connects to Discord in three ways. You can link your account to prove you're a member and pick up your Pro role, unlock Discord's Linked Roles so servers can grant roles based on your VerseDB activity, and add the VerseDB bot to a server you run. Everything lives under Apps → Discord in your library.

Open Apps → Discord and click Link. You'll approve access on Discord, and if you're not in the VerseDB community server yet, you can join right from there. Linking confirms you as a VerseDB member, and if you're a Pro subscriber, you automatically get the Pro role in the community server.

You can unlink anytime from the same page.

Unlock Discord roles with Linked Roles#

After linking, you can authorize VerseDB as a Linked Roles connection in Discord. Any server can then use your VerseDB account to grant roles through Discord's built-in Linked Roles feature. VerseDB shares four details:

  • Pro Subscriber — whether you have an active Pro subscription
  • Collection Size — how many comics are in your collection
  • Reviews Written — how many reviews you've written
  • Pro Member Since — how long you've been a Pro subscriber

Each server's admins decide which of these to require for a role. You stay in control, since Discord only shares these details after you authorize the connection.

Add the VerseDB bot to your server#

If you run a Discord server, you can add the VerseDB bot for free. From Apps → Discord, use the install link and choose your server — you'll need the Manage Server permission there. Once it's in, manage it from the server dashboard at Apps → Discord → your server.

Slash commands#

Anyone in a server with the bot can use these:

  • /search — search series, issues, characters, or creators
  • /issue, /series, /character, /creator, /publisher — look up a specific entry
  • /key-issues — key issues for a character
  • /releases — new releases for a date range
  • /foc — upcoming Final Order Cutoff deadlines
  • /new-series — #1 issues launching soon
  • /trending — this week's trending comics
  • /comic-of-the-day — a daily featured comic
  • /status — bot and database health

Add private: true to any lookup for a reply only you can see, or set a server-wide default with /config.

Automatic posts#

From the server dashboard you can schedule posts to a channel for weekly releases, FOC deadlines, new series, trending comics, and a comic of the day. Choose the channel for each, filter by publisher or medium, and send a test post to confirm it looks right.

What you need#

Linking and Linked Roles need a VerseDB account and a Discord account. The Pro role on the community server requires a Pro subscription. The bot and every slash command are free, but installing the bot on a server takes the Manage Server permission on that server.
