Martian Manhunter

J'onn J'onzz is the last survivor of Mars and a powerful being in the DC Universe. Created by writer Joseph Samachson and artist Joe Certa, he first appeared in Detective Comics #225 (November 1955) when scientist Dr. Saul Erdel accidentally teleported him to Earth. Stranded after Erdel's death, J'onn adopted the human identity of John Jones and became a police detective.

A founding member of the Justice League of America, J'onn has served in virtually every incarnation of the League. His abilities include shapeshifting, telepathy, flight, super strength, invisibility, intangibility, and Martian vision. His primary weakness is an intense psychological fear of fire, rooted in the trauma of losing his wife M'yri'ah, daughter K'hym, and entire civilization.

His 2000 ongoing series by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake remains a notable exploration of the character. The 2025 miniseries Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez offers a new interpretation.
