Jay Garrick

Jay Garrick is a DC Comics superhero and the original character to carry the name the Flash, first appearing in Flash Comics #1 (1940), created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert. A college student who gained superhuman speed after accidentally inhaling hard water vapor in a lab accident, Garrick became a crime fighter and founding member of the Justice Society of America. His revival in the Silver Age story The Flash of Two Worlds (1961) established the concept of the DC Multiverse by introducing the idea of parallel Earths.
