Stephen Slesinger and cartoonist Fred Harman launched this Western hero as a newspaper strip in November 1938. A rancher in the Colorado high country, Red rides a horse named Thunder alongside his young companion Little Beaver and his aunt, the Duchess. Comic reprints and films followed.
