Maria Vaz is the girlfriend of José Carioca, the Brazilian green parrot who originated in Walt Disney's 1942 animated film Saludos Amigos. Known as Rosinha in many Portuguese-language publications, she is an anthropomorphic bird who has been a central supporting figure in the José Carioca comic series since the 1940s. The José Carioca comics gave her a presence that expanded well beyond the character's brief appearances in the original film.
