Tetsuya Saruwatari

Tetsuya Saruwatari is a Japanese manga artist born in Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture. After dropping out of high school, he worked as an assistant to Shinji Hiramatsu and Hiroshi Motomiya before debuting as a solo artist with Umi no Senshi in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Saruwatari is best known for Riki-Oh, a martial arts manga that became a cult sensation and was adapted into a Hong Kong live-action film and a Japanese OVA. His longest-running work, Tough, was serialized in Young Jump for over a decade and continued with the sequel series Tough: Ryuu wo Tsugu Otoko. Both series center on intense hand-to-hand combat and are known for their detailed depictions of fighting techniques and muscular anatomy.
