Japanese manga artist born February 15, 1932, died October 8, 2021. Born Noboru Okamoto, he is considered a pioneer of the gekiga genre and is best known for Ninja Bugeichō and Kamui Den, historical dramas that blended action with political allegory. In 1964 he co-founded the manga magazine Garo, which became a key venue for alternative adult-oriented manga.
