Japanese manga artist born in Iwate Prefecture. He played volleyball through middle and high school before pursuing a career in manga. His breakthrough series Haikyu!!, a sports manga about high school volleyball, launched in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2012 and ran until 2020 across 45 volumes. The series sold over 50 million copies and won the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category.
