American cartoonist born in 1943 and a founding figure of the underground comix movement. He published Zap Comix in 1968 and created countercultural characters including Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural. Known for his densely crosshatched pen-and-ink style, he was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1991.
