Japanese manga artist born July 3, 1936. He had an early career in comedy and sports manga before finding his signature genre in the 1970s, when his horror series Kyōfu Shinbun and Ushiro no Hyakutarō helped establish him as one of the leading horror mangaka of his era and sparked a wider boom in occult-themed manga in Japan.
