Security conscript Harry Deubert makes an unwanted discovery when he finds contraband hidden inside the body of a fallen comrade. The trail leads to Section Null, a secret Starfleet directorate that has been using disposable red shirts as assets in a sprawling criminal conspiracy.

Deubert teams with Lyna Taval, an Andorian officer carrying her own covert agenda, as the two dig deeper into an organization that has already made them targets.
