A few things to know to get the most out of your VerseDB MCP integration.
Tips for Better Results#
Be specific with issue references. "Amazing Spider-Man #300" works better than "that spider-man comic." Include series name and issue number when you can.
Use natural language. You don't need special commands or syntax. Ask questions and give instructions the way you'd talk to a knowledgeable comic shop employee.
Combine actions in one conversation. Your AI assistant can chain lookups with actions. "Find Invincible #1 and add it to my collection, graded 9.2" works in a single request.
Ask for reading orders. The MCP has a dedicated reading order prompt that organizes issues by story arc or character, including tie-in and prologue/epilogue flags.
Use collection analysis. Ask for a collection analysis focused on "gaps and completions" to find holes in your runs, or "value assessment" to understand what your collection is worth.
If your AI assistant returns too many results, add filters: specify a publisher, year range, or medium (comic, manga, manhwa, manhua) to narrow things down.
Limitations#
Pro subscription required. The MCP is only available to Pro subscribers. Free accounts will receive a subscription required error.
Rate limit: 1,000 requests per hour. Each tool call (search, lookup, add to collection, etc.) counts as one request. Normal usage rarely hits this limit, but bulk operations like adding dozens of issues might. If you hit the limit, wait and try again later.
No community data editing. You can't submit edits to series descriptions, character bios, or other community data through the MCP. Content edits go through VerseDB's moderation system on the website.
No image uploads. Cover art and profile images can't be uploaded through the MCP.
No account management. You can't change your password, email, subscription, or account settings through the MCP.
Private data stays private. Your AI assistant can only access your own collection, pull list, reading progress, and lists. It can't see other users' private data.
- Be specific: "Amazing Spider-Man #300" or "Batman by Tom King"
- Combine actions: "Find it and add it to my collection"
- Use filters: "Marvel series from 2020"
- Ask for analysis: "What are my most valuable comics?"
- Expect it to edit wiki-style community data
- Upload images through the MCP
- Share your OAuth token with others
- Worry about read-only searches. They're fast and free within the rate limit.
