Scott Summers has put the X-Men behind him for a berth on a fishing trawler out of Florida, working for its captain, Lee Forrester.

A call from Lee's father brings the two of them out to a house in the Everglades. What greets them there is not her father, and it feeds on grief. Cyclops is about to be walked back through the worst moments of his life, one at a time.
