Description
Taarna returns to comics in this six issue limited series from Heavy Metal, reviving the warrior first seen riding a giant bird across the heavens in the 1981 animated film. Writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Patrick Zircher frame her as the last of the Taarakian people, a celestial being bound to protect life across a shattered multiverse.
Her opponent is Kako, an entity that embodies cosmic chaos and has warred against order for countless ages. As Taarna faces down Kako's forces, she gains an ally in Shaan, a mysterious young woman drawn into the conflict, while the chaos god's commander Urcuss leads an army bent on total destruction.
The book leans into myth over dialogue, narrating Taarna's exploits like an ancient legend while the art recalls the psychedelic, cosmic style of the original Heavy Metal magazine. Christian Rosado and Al Barrionuevo join Zircher on art duties as the series progresses, with covers by Christian Ward.
