Princeless is Jeremy Whitley's all-ages fantasy series and the book that launched the franchise. On her sixteenth birthday, Princess Adrienne Ashe is locked in a tower and guarded by a dragon to await rescue by a worthy prince. Adrienne has other ideas. She arms herself, wins over the dragon, and sets out to save herself and then her sisters, each sealed in a tower of her own. Joined by Bedelia, a half-dwarven blacksmith, Adrienne crosses a kingdom that keeps underestimating her, taking apart fairy-tale assumptions about gender, race, and who gets to be the hero. The series won multiple Glyph Awards and earned Eisner nominations for its sharp humor and its refusal to wait for a prince.
