Storm (1978)

Storm is a Dutch science-fiction and fantasy series drawn by British artist Don Lawrence and written largely by Martin Lodewijk, first published in 1978. The title character is an astronaut who, after a disaster in space, is thrown far into Earth's future and wakes to a planet remade into a strange, barbaric world he no longer recognizes. Stranded with no clear way home, he becomes a wandering adventurer, soon joined by the red-haired warrior Ytaca, and the two move through hostile kingdoms, ruined technology, and rival warlords. Lawrence's detailed, painterly full-color artwork became the series' signature, presented in the large European album format rather than the stapled American comic book. The stories ran first in magazines such as Eppo before collection, and the early run unfolds in the so-called Deep World before later cycles expand the setting. Storm grew into a long-running fixture of Dutch comics and has been translated into English, German, and many other languages.
