Uncle Scrooge (1953)
SeriesDescription
Uncle Scrooge follows Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world, as he guards his fortune and chases new riches across the globe. The title grew out of Scrooge's popularity in Dell's Four Color anthology and began its own numbering in 1953. Carl Barks wrote and drew most of the early run and shaped the character into a restless adventurer rather than a simple miser.
Stories pair treasure hunting and far travel with comedy built around Scrooge's thrift. His nephew Donald Duck and grand-nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie usually come along, while rivals like Flintheart Glomgold and the sorceress Magica De Spell scheme after his money.
Publication continued for decades across several publishers, from Dell and Western's Gold Key and Whitman to Gladstone, Disney, Gemstone, and Boom! Studios. Later creators, notably Don Rosa, expanded the world Barks built while keeping its mix of humor and adventure.
