Adventures into the Unknown (1948)
SeriesDescription
Adventures into the Unknown was an anthology series from American Comics Group, running from 1948 through 1967. It is widely recognized as the first ongoing comic book devoted to supernatural horror, predating the better known horror lines of the early 1950s. Each issue gathered several short, self-contained tales of ghosts, witches, vampires, and the uncanny.
Editor Richard E. Hughes guided the title for most of its run and wrote much of its later material under various pen names. After the adoption of the Comics Code in 1954, the content softened toward science fiction, fantasy, and lighter supernatural whimsy. The run reached 174 issues and anchored ACG's trio of mystery titles alongside Forbidden Worlds and Unknown Worlds.
