Most import issues fall into a few categories. Try the matching section below before contacting support.
Many Unmatched Items#
If a lot of your comics show "unmatched" after processing:
- Add more identifying data — include publisher, volume number, or start_year to distinguish between series with similar names
- Use IDs when possible — a
vdb_idorcv_idcolumn produces exact matches - Check series names — VerseDB may use different naming. "ASM" won't match "The Amazing Spider-Man"
- Manual matching — on the review page, search for series and issues to match items by hand
Download your unmatched items as CSV from the review page. Add more detail and re-import just those.
File Won't Upload#
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| File too large | Max 10 MB — split larger files into batches |
| Wrong format | Only CSV, XLS, and XLSX are supported |
| Corrupted file | Re-export from the source app |
| Already have an import | You can only run one import at a time — complete or cancel the current one first |
Headers Not Detected#
- Make sure the first row contains headers, not data
- Remove any blank rows above the headers
- Use simple header names without special characters
- Save as CSV with UTF-8 encoding
Import Stuck on "Processing"#
Small files (under 100 rows) process in a few minutes. Larger files can take longer at peak hours — processing runs in the background, so you can close the tab and come back. You'll also get an email when it finishes.
If it's stuck for more than 30 minutes, cancel and re-upload.
Conflicts During Update#
This is normal when "Update" is selected as the duplicate handling mode and matching items already exist. For each conflict you can keep existing, use new, or skip all.
Wrong Data Imported#
- Wrong import type — delete the import and start over with the correct type (Collection, Wishlist, etc.)
- Wrong field mapping — double-check that "Purchase Price" maps to
price_paid, notnotes, etc. - Date format — VerseDB expects
YYYY-MM-DDfor date fields
Special Characters Show As Mojibake#
If names or notes show é instead of é, your file isn't UTF-8 encoded.
- Open the CSV in a text editor (not Excel)
- Save As with encoding set to UTF-8
- Re-upload
Still Stuck?#
Contact support and attach your file — we'll import it for you. Let us know the import type (Collection, Wishlist, etc.) and the source it came from.
