Elmer Fudd is a cartoon character in the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes franchise and the persistent antagonist of Bugs Bunny. Originating from a character developed by Tex Avery in 1937, he is depicted as a mild-mannered but perpetually unsuccessful hunter whose pursuit of Bugs almost never ends in his favor. He is identifiable by his distinctive speech pattern, replacing his Rs and Ls with Ws. Elmer appeared in dozens of classic theatrical shorts and is best remembered for the Rabbit Season/Duck Season trilogy directed by Chuck Jones.
