Introduced in House of Secrets #61 in 1963 as the dark half of the scientist Bruce Gordon, who changes whenever an eclipse falls after a cursed black diamond wounds him. A 1990s retcon recast Eclipso as an ancient entity bound in that diamond, with Gordon only one of its hosts.
