Description

Beetle Bailey is the title character of the long-running newspaper comic strip created by Mort Walker, which debuted in 1950. Born Carl James Bailey, Beetle is an enlisted soldier at Camp Swampy whose talent for avoiding work and sleeping on duty drives his commanding officers to distraction. Walker drew on his own Army service during World War II to shape the strip's humor and setting. The strip became one of the most widely syndicated in the world, appearing in newspapers across more than 50 countries.
